Stephen's New Book, Reality Gap, Earns Great Reviews

Publisher’s Weekly and Booklist have already weighed in on Stephen Wallace’s Reality Gap, saying he “bridges the gap” and that his “hands-on research and in-depth interviews are tremendously useful, as are his discussions of the role of the media and the mixed signals gleaned from parents.”

Wallace examines the turbulent changes wrought by adolescence in terms of physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. He devotes the latter part of his work to proactive strategies for dispelling myths that keep parents in “blissful ignorance” – about the availability of drugs and alcohol, for one thing. Wallace’s hands-on research and in-depth interviews are tremendously useful, as are his discussions of the role of the media and the mixed signals gleaned from parents. Publisher’s Weekly

Wallace bridges the gap with research showing an appalling lack of knowledge by teens of health and legal consquences of risky behavior.  Based on research and his own 25-year experience as a school psychologist and counselor, Wallace offers suggestions for improving communication between teens and their parents with age-specific “decision-points” to guide parents in addressing particular issues.Booklist
