On Wednesday September 17th Stephen spoke to pediatric physicians at Cape Cod Hospital on the subject of youth development and decision-making. He based his remarks on the research behind his new book, Reality Gap: Alcohol, Drugs, and Sex – What Parents Don’t Know and Teens Aren’t Telling. Stephen, who was introduced by Chief of Pediatrics Leif Norenberg, M.D., covered the breadth and depth of youth at risk in today’s society; articulated decision factors and decision points related to such behaviors as underage drinking, other drug use, and early intimate sexual behavior; and talked about a communication process that can empower parents and teens to better understand the physical, social, emotional, and legal consequences of certain behaviors and to make safer, healthier choices. The talk was offered as a CME credit for participants.
